Renfrew Burgh set for Glasgow Cathedral

THE Renfrew Burgh Band is preparing to perform at a concert in Glasgow Cathedral ahead of its trip to the National Brass Band Championships.
Conducted by Mark Good, the band's programme on Saturday, September 5, will include The Graces of Love, the set work for the competition composed by Oliver Waespi, and will raise funds for Christian Aid's Malawi Project.
It comes as maternal mortality rates in Malawi stand at 675 per 100,000 live births. Only half of births requiring emergency care are receiving such services. The cathedral is committed to raising £5,000, a sum which will be match-funded by the Scottish Government at a rate of over 7:1. Money raised will enhance maternal and neo-natal services in the Karonga district of Malawi. Plans to increase access and uptake of services for new and expectant mothers include linking up communities to their nearest health facility through mobile telephones and motorbike ambulances. The good practice developed in the Karonga district will be rolled out to other parts of Malawi.
The concert starts at 7.30pm and also features the cathedral organist Dr Malcolm Sim. Tickets cost £8 and will be available at the door.
