Adjudicators announced for West Lothian Festival

Howden Park Centre

THE Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) has announced the adjudicators for the 2015 West Lothian Festival of Brass.

Richard Marshall, Bruce Fraser and Tony Swainson will offer their analysis on the performances at the event in the Howden Park Centre on Sunday, June 7, which begins at 2pm. Seated apart, they will not consult with each other and each will take responsibility for one of three areas of the bands' performances.

The six competing bands are due to perform a 25 minute programme which must include: a new arrangement or composition; a solo item; a section or ensemble feature and a work by Elgar Howarth, who celebrates his 80th birthday this year.

Points are awarded for the quality of performance, programme content and the entertainment / presentation aspect. In the event of a tie, the band with the highest score for the quality of the performance will take precendence.

The draw for the contest was made in March.

Commenting on the event, Tom Allan, SBBA executive member, said: "This year's West Lothian Festival of Brass promises to be one of the most exciting yet.

"With an innovative format, strong line-up and a talented team of adjudicators, there will be no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than listening to some of Scotland's finest bands deliver what I'm sure will be one fantastic programme after the other."

Tickets for the West Lothian Festival of Brass are available by logging on to the Howden Park Centre website or by calling its box office: 01506 777666.
