BRASS and percussion players aged 12-16-years-old have been invited to an open rehearsal with the West Scotland Wing Music Service on Friday (March 6).

Formed in August 2013, the organisation aims to provide musical opportunities to West Scotland Wing Air Training Corps (ATC). Notable performances from the group's wind band have included performances at Stars on Parade 2013 alongside West End singers, Edinburgh Castle in the Great Hall for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the beating retreat at Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia for the representatives of the International Air Cadet Exchange.

The band has also been invited to perform for various RAFA Functions and at the Officers' Mess at RAF Leuchars. West Scotland Wing Music Services also provide musical ensembles to support the parent Wing throughout the year at parades, church services and formal dinners.

At present, the music service consists of one wind band, one squadron band and a squadron choir. The team of staff is musically led by Sergeant (ATC) Dean Welsh who is currently in his third year of his musical performance degree at Edinburgh College. Aside from studying, Sgt Welsh works as a freelance musician, teaching for a local band on a Sunday evening and performing with various other ensembles.

To join, musicians should be aged between 12 and 16-years-old. They can attend the 1271 Bathgate Squadron Band on Friday evenings from 6-7pm. Musicians can also join their local squadron and attend the regular Wing rehearsals and events throughout the year.

The event, at 1271 (Bathgate) Squadron Air Training Corps, Torphichen Street, Bathgate, is due to run from 7pm until 9pm.

Attendance can be confirmed by contacting Sgt Welsh (bandmaster).
