Gorbals Youth Brass Band heading for the Charts!
Out of the 2,600 projects supported by BBC Children in Need accross the UK, Gorbals Youth Brass Band (GYBB) were chosen to record for the official Children in Need fundraising single of 2014.
Choirmaster Gareth Malone and an array of untrained voices from the world of television, sport and theatre have recorded the vocals to the official track 'Wake Me Up'.
Looking for help with the backing track, BBC London contacted GYBB!
On Monday 21 October, Gareth and his team, percussion instruments and recording equipment of all shapes and sizes bundled in to the Saint Francis Community Centre in the Gorbals, Glasgow
Gareth taught the melody and various harmony parts to the band made up of students primarily from the local Saint Francis and Blackfriars Primary schools. After 3 hours of intense practice and recording, Gareth had lots of perfect 'takes' to work with.
The first episode of 'Gareth's All Star Choir' aired on Monday 3 November at 9:00pm on BBC One. GYBB will feature in the second episode which is scheduled to be televised on Monday 10 November, 9:00pm BBC One.
