Another major award for the Tullis Russell Band organisation

On Friday the 29th Aug at the Rothes Halls the Tullis Russell Band organisation was awarded the Mary leishman Foundation Award for services to the Arts & Music at the Kingdom FM "Local hero Awards "ceremony. The Tullis Russell organisation was nominated anonymously along with other groups before a final three were chosen to go forward to the final for the award. On the night the invited audience were informed about the bands achievements over the last 14 months, which included the historic double Scottish Championship wins, competing at the European Brass Band Championships, taking part in many local community events and concerts as well as raising funds for other worthwhile causes. The award was presented on the night by Jamie Leishman, the son of the late Mary Leishman whose name the foundation was named after.
A band spokesperson said " as an organisation we go about our business in a quiet and professional way and try to help as many other organisations along the way as we can, and we do this without looking for credit, so it's nice when someone out there thinks you are worthy of a nomination for such a prestigious award"
Members of the bands at Tullis were very surprised to be told they had been nominated but then to go on and win the award just adds even more icing to what has already been a historic year for the Tullis Russell Mills Band and the Tullis Russell Intermediate Band. Both bands have little time to sit and reflect on the award as they are both now in the final weeks of preparation for the National Brass Band finals which take place in Cheltenham on the 20th & 21st Sept.
