2014 has proved to be one of the most successful in the history of the Tullis Russell Mills Band organisation with the historic double Scottish Championship win in March an invitation to compete in the European Championships and the prospect of both Tullis Bands taking part in the National Finals in September, and a Civic reception from Fife Council therefore you really think it would be difficult for things to get any better...... but it has.

The Tullis Russell Band organisation has been nominated for the Kingdom FM radio station local hero awards in the "Mary Leishman Foundation Award for services to the arts and music" and the Tullis organisation will find out at a Gala Dinner on the 29th August if they have been successful.

"Just amazing"

A senior spokesperson for the band described the nomination as "just amazing" going on to say "everyone at Tullis are very excited about this award as it has never been awarded to a brass band before so it would be great to be the first and will just add to what has already been a fantastic year for everyone involved at Tullis".

A delegation from the band will be invited to the awards ceremony which takes place in the Rothes Halls later this month and the night will certainly have an Oscars type flavour as all the nominees have already had a video interview carried out which will be put onto the massive screens at the halls before the golden envelope is opened to announce the winners.

Both The Tullis Russell Mills Band and the Tullis Russell Intermediate Band still have a busy end of year schedule coming up which includes the national finals, the Fife Championships in September, then both bands will be involved in the Scottish Challenge Cup and the Scottish Challenge Shield in November before taking on a busy Christmas schedule of concerts and events. The Tullis Russell Youth Band will also be taking part in the Scottish Youth Championships in the Concert Hall in November so a really busy time for everyone at Tullis.
