Players from Whitburn will be getting on their bikes this weekend in preparation for its European challenge

Last year's Scottish champion will represent the home nation at the European on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at Perth Concert Hall.
The event will be particularly special for Whitburn, as this is the first time the European has been held in Scotland in ten years. Whitburn has a proud record of representing Scotland in the event and has achieved some outstanding results in the past, notably by finishing second in 1990.
This year, the Europeans are the focal point of one of the busiest periods in the band's history. Following the Scottish Championships in March, the band will perform at the Grand Shield the week before the Europeans.
Being this busy comes at a cost, with band hall costs, conductors and transportation considerably higher than normal. With this in mind, the band has been fundraising with the highlight being a sponsored cycle this weekend.
Members of the band will cycle from Whitburn Band Hall to the Perth Concert Hall on Saturday, April 19. The route they are taking is approximately 60 miles.
The riders will be supported by the rest of the band, with a performance in Whitburn as the cyclists leave followed by some support along the route at branches of Dobbies Garden Centres in Livingston, Dunfermline and Kinross.
David Kinross, Whitburn Band President, commented: "This is one of the busiest periods in the band's history and we need all the support we can get from of all our friends and supporters.
"We are very proud to represent Scotland at a home European and we now need your help to make the best challenge possible."
