Allan Withington`s Conductor Summer School.

From the 29th of June to the 5th July this year we have the pleasure of holding the 5th annual Summer School. The fee is Euro 466,64 and includes all tuition, accommodation, food, transport and course material.
We have a policy of opening the school to all ages, creeds, and abilities.

Students are informed of the week`s programme before arrival but also are given pieces to prepare after all have had the chance to conduct Soli Brass, on the first day of the course. This enables us to distribute pieces according to individual ability.

This year is slightly different in that Manger Musikklag from Norway will be present throughout the school. In addition to the students working with Soli Brass they will also have the chance to observe Allan, preparing Manger for the World Music Contest to be held a week later in Kerkrade.
The course ends with a Gala Concert that the students themselves have helped to design during the week. We are not looking for a `straightforward` concert but some innovative thinking to provide a workable final concert. Both Soli Brass and Manger will be involved in the concert.

Each year`s course adopts a theme on which the final concert is based and we always include other cultural institutions from Leeuwarden. In the past we have included a fashion school, ladies choir, a graffiti artist and dancers. This year, the course is to take place in the old jail in Leeuwarden and the theme will be based around the search for freedom. Exciting prospects loom ahead.

Allan and Robin are always at hand and help to guide the students through programme planning, score reading, planning and executing effective rehearsals, people management and performance psychology, conducting technique and an array of other issues that usually appear during the week.
The students come from a variety of different countries and backgrounds which in itself creates an interesting dynamic.
