Members of the premier band of The National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) are looking forward to their inaugural Easter Course, which will be led by esteemed conductor Philip Harper, taking place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow from Tuesday 2nd - Thursday 4th April, culminating with an Open Day session for the general public. These outstanding young musicians will be focusing their time on four challenging pieces, and will be opening the doors of their final rehearsal to everyone curious to find out more about the NYBBS organization (which comprises of three bands, combining to cater for a broad mix of abilities and ages from 9 - 22). The Open Day takes place on Thursday 4th April from 10.30am - 12.00 noon and, together with information about all three of the NYBBS bands, the summer courses and joining instructions, visitors are encouraged to enjoy watching and listening to the premier band in action.

As part of the further development of the NYBBS organisation, this is the first Easter Course for NYBBS and offers the members a valuable opportunity to extend the variety and challenges of the music they perform as a group, work with internationally renowned musicians and to provide a preparation path for the forthcoming Summer Course to be held in Perth from 4-10th August. The four works to be rehearsed at Easter include ‘Fireworks' (Elgar Howarth), ‘The Legend of King Arthur' (Peter Meechan), ‘Les Francs Juges' (Berlioz, arr. Frank Wright) and the tuba concerto ‘Salt of the Earth' (Andy Scott), welcoming tuba virtuoso, Les Neish (for whom the piece was originally composed), as the guest soloist for the course.

Visitors are welcome to attend the Open Day session and are encouraged to spend some of their visit listening to the wonderful sounds and technical ability of these talented young brass and percussion players by looking in on the Open Rehearsal.
