Newland Junior Band - ARISE funding
Newland Junior Band is celebrating after receiving a fundraising boost from ARISE-The Alliance to Reward Initiatives and Social Enterprise. This funding will help purchase new music for the band. Mark Good, Newland Junior Band conductor said, "Funding from Arise has been invaluable to the band in helping extend the repertoire being played by members of the Junior Band providing the young musicians with music from a variety of styles and backgrounds."
This funding will also be used to buy music for an International Youth Music Camp that is being organised by Newland Concert Brass and the Bathgate Cran-Gevrier Twinning Association.
The twinning agreement between the town of Cran-Gevrier in France and Bathgate was signed in March 2010. As a result, young members from Bathgate's Newland Concert Brass took part in the first InternationalYouth Music Camp in Cran-Gevrier in July 2011. The camp also included young musicians from Piossasco in Italy. Following the huge success of the camp, a second International Youth Music camp will take place in July 2012 in Scotland. The Musical Director for the camp will be Newland's Mark Good and will feature Scottish, French and Italian musicians. There will be a concert in the Regal Community Theatre in Bathgate on Thursday 12th July at 7.30pm. This event will be a product of the brass and woodwind players hard work during the camp and will also feature Newland Concert Brass conducted by Andy Shaw.
