Death of Bram Thomson

The Scottish Brass band Association was saddened to see the report on 4BR of the death of Bram Thompson. He was aged 90 and died peacefully following a short illness.
Bram Thompson was a highly regarded solo horn player with SCWS Band (the former Scottish Co-op Band) until moving to London in the 1960s. He later became an influential figure in the organisation of the National Brass Band Championships along with E. Vaughan Morris.
At a local level he was secretary of the Glasgow Charities band Association, now West of Scotland Association, and was for many years a great influence on banding in Scotland.
Bram has also donated money to SBBA for prizes in our Solo and Ensemble contest and the Bram Thomson medal for the Best Horn player is presented each year in the Championship Section of the Scottish Championships.
Our condolances to his family.
A press release from Co-operative Funeralcare band.
The Co-operative Funeralcare Band regretfully announce the sad passing of Bram Thompson a former solo horn player, secretary and a lifetime supporter of the band. Bram joined the band in 1949 on solo horn, a position he held until 1963. After this time Bram spent his time tirelessly supporting the band and never missing a major championship performance. His passing ends a 63 year association with the band
His very close friend David Read, contacted the band to express his condolences and said" he was your greatest fan and follower, he will be sadly missed".
Band Chairman, Paul Kiernan said "it's a very sad time for the band and our thoughts are with his family at this time. In true Bram style he had been in contact with the band only last week asking how the band was playing ahead of our regional contest on Sunday 11th, his love for the band was never ending".
Bram was a true bandsman and a fine example to everyone in the brass band movement. He will be sorely missed by all his friends in the band.
The band will play and record two hymns at Bram's request, to be played at his funeral.
