Personnel changes at Co-operative Funeralcare

Co-operative Funeralcare Band

THE Co-operative Funeralcare Band has announced that Chris Flynn has been appointed to the position of principal euphonium.

Chris takes over the chair following the departure of Scott Kerr. The 16-year-old has made a name for himself as an award-winning soloist, and while playing principal euphonium with the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland. Commenting on his appointment, Chris said: "I'm absolutely delighted to have been offered the end chair. It's such a great opportunity for me to further my playing career, and I'm going to give it my all. I can't wait to get started."

Bryan Allen, Associate Musical Director, said "For someone of such a young age, Chris possesses a fantastic technique allied to mature and innate musical instincts. He is a player with a fine future ahead of him and one who is absolutely ready to take on the demands of this important role with the band."

Chris moves from the first baritone seat, which will be taken by new signing Scott Findlater. Allan Ramsay, Associate Musical Director, said: "I have always been hugely impressed with Scott's playing any time that I have listened to him or worked with him.

"He has a rich quality of sound, excellent technique, and a very musical approach. He has gained a wealth of experience so far, in the euphonium seats of both Whitburn and Kirkintilloch, is a great bandsman and represents another great addition for team Co-op."

Reflecting on the appointments, Chris Davies, chairman of Co-operative Funeralcare Band, added: "Chris Flynn is an astounding young talent and we're so lucky that he's agreed to continue his musical journey with us as principal euphonium. He's a very special musician, and I'm excited to watch him flourish over the coming years.

"The band is going from strength to strength. We are stronger than we were six months ago and the positive trajectory will continue. We have only just begun to scratch the surface of what this group of people can achieve, and I'm proud to be part of such a dedicated, tight-knit band. Next year will be a very exciting year."
