Brass teacher Michael Robertson is to be recognised by the Worshipful Company of Musicians in Symphony Hall, Birmingham  this weekend and then again in London, later this year.

He will receive the Mortimer Medal for 2011, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the teaching of young brass players, and he is only the second Scotsman to receive it.

An immensely successful and respected brass instructor, he has worked with both the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland and the National Wind Ensemble of Scotland.

As well as being the conductor of the Arbroath Instrumental Band, he has also been the driving force behind the remarkable progress made by the Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band. Since its inception in 2008, it has become one of the leading youth bands in the country, leading to its becoming the 2011 National Youth Band Champions of Great Britain.

Congratulations Mike, from all at SBBA.
