Death of Tommy Campbell
It is with deep regret that Dalkeith and Monktonhall Band advise of the sudden death of Band Treasurer, Thomas (Tommy) Campbell on Tuesday 22 March.
Tommy was a member of the Dalkeith Burgh Band as a boy, supporting the band throughout, and became treasurer of the Dalkeith and Monktonhall Band in 1989 at the time of amalgamation between the Dalkeith and Monktonhall Colliery Bands.
Tommy was a life member of SBBA and a regular supporter and well-known figure at band contests. He was very much a larger than life character who was always ready to engage in conversation over a pint at contests and put forward his often forthright point of view with a twinkle in his eye in his typically playful manner.
Tommy supported the band all of his life through all of the ups and downs that workaday banding presents to us all. He not only was a true bandsman but a great and loyal friend to many in the band and further afield.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Helen and his family at this time. He will be sadly missed from the bandroom.
His funeral service will take place at St Mary's Church, Dalkieth on April 2nd, 9.30 am then to Mortonhall Crematorium. A tea will be held afterwards in Woodburn Miners club.
