Tullis Russell help keep the boat out

Saturday 29th Jan was the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) national fund raising day with a theme of SOS, so the local Fife RNLI branch based in Kinghorn decided on a Songs On Saturday and asked the Tullis Russell Mills Band to provide the music. The concert was very quickly sold out and local RNLI organiser Sheona Baxter said she was amazed at just how quick the tickets sold. The numbers in the hall were limited as a winter warming lunch was also provided in the cost of the ticket so the audience were seated more in a gala dinner seating plan rather than conventional concert hall seating. The audience were treated to a medley of popular songs from stage and film in a concert which featured the band's flugel, cornet, solo horn and solo euphonium players all under the direction of Martyn Ramsay as well as a few brass band standards.

RNLI organiser Sheona said "that due to the popularity of this years concert the band have already been signed up for next year where a different venue has already been booked to ensure that the hall can cater for the number of people who wish to attend as this year many were left disappointed when they turned up on the day hoping to buy a ticket at the door". This is the first of many concert engagements the hard working Tullis Russell Mills Band will do throughout the year as they perform in order to help raise much needed funds for a wide range of organisations throughout Fife and Scotland. Money raised from Saturday's concert will go towards helping maintain the inshore RNLI lifeboat based at Kinghorn which was launched 70 times during 2010 and rescued 92 people and was the second busiest lifeboat in Scotland last year.
