Blackbraes Silver Band
Has anyone heard of Blackbraes Silver band or has any information. Recently Tom Cunningham sent me the above photograph taken outside their band hall. First question I asked was where is Blackbraes, Tom had the answer.
Blackbraes is, or more accurately was, a mining village roughly 5 miles south of Falkirk and it died in the early 1920's I guess. although the name lived on with the band the football team and the school until after WW2. The population of the village was moved from the old miners rows to new council housing in the adjacent village of California which still thrives today.
Tom's grandfathger and uncle were both members of the band and the photograph is dated around 1930's
