The Tullis Russell Intermediate Band (TRIM Band) played at it's first public performance on Sat 11th July. Playing at a local Fete in the grounds of the Preston Hall Care Home the TRIM band entertained residents, staff and members of the public. The TRIM Band was formed in March of this year with the view to attracting players who had perhaps played at school and then had given up playing when they had left, or bands people who had not played for some time as well as taking on complete adult beginners who had never had an opportunity to learn when they were younger. The Tullis Russell Youth Band coordinator Steven Craig said " the idea for an adult band came about when we were talking to various people about starting our new youth band and the comment I wish I had been given the chance to learn an instrument was heard many times". The committee at Tullis Russell Mills Band then thought that there must be quite a lot of players out there who would like to start again or learn from scratch. The initial aim was to have a small ensemble playing at one of the senior bands Christmas concerts in December and no one connected with the band thought this initiative would be such a major success so quickly. Some of the players have not played since they were at school which in some cases has been over 25 years and these players are now thoroughly enjoying being part of the brass band movement. The 21 strong ensemble are now looking forward to a short break for the summer before getting back to rehearsals for what looks like a busy Autumn and Christmas period. Members of the TRIM band have also helped out the senior band at marching engagements in June and July which has also been a new and exciting experience for them.

Tullis Russell now supports three levels of bands with the Senior Band, the Intermediate Band and the new Youth band
