Bathgate based Newland Concert Brass is keen to hear from any brass players who would like to join the band on their summer trip to Germany from the 1st to the 9th July 2010.  They are particularly keen to hear from any trombone players who would be interested in coming along.

In 1988 Newland Concert Brass made its first trip abroad; a concert tour of Hochsaurland in Germany.  This visit developed links with both the area and a German band, Neheim-Husten Fanfarenkorps.  The following year a partnership was agreed and since then both bands have taken part in several exchange visits. Newland last visited Neheim in July 2004 and the Fanfarenkorps visited Bathgate in June 2008.  This year's trip will include a concert at the Bergheim Schutzenfest, two concerts at Fort fun theme park and a tour of Borussia Dortmund football stadium.  The band will be travelling by coach and overnight ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge.

The band is making the Germany trip along with Musical Director Anne Crookston for the first time.   Anne was educated at Our Lady's High School, Motherwell from 1977 to 1983; she then graduated with a B. Mus (Hons) from Glasgow University in 1988. Her musical experience is wide-ranging, having been involved in choirs, brass bands, orchestras and wind bands throughout her career. Anne's earliest musical training was on Tenor horn, moving to Baritone horn at the age of 14. At the same time, the school music department was given an oboe and Anne was the lucky pupil to have the first chance to play it. She studied oboe with Hughina Naylor and  later with Judith Herd and began playing piano at that time

Her brass playing continued and she has enjoyed successes with CWS (Glasgow) and then Whitburn band where she is still a member. Whilst studying at Glasgow University, Anne began conducting the University Brass ensemble and Wind Band.  She was later given the chance to conduct the University Orchestra.  She has also conducted and arranged music for the Whitburn band. Anne is currently Head of the Performance and Design Faculty at St. Margaret's Academy, Livingston. A spokesperson for Newland Concert Brass said,

"Since Anne took on the role of MD last year, Newland Concert Brass has taken part in a variety of concerts whilst building up a strong repertoire.  We are now looking to strengthen the team further and are keen to hear from any baritone, Bb bass, horn and trombone players to join us on a Monday evening in Bathgate."

Players of any instrument are welcome to come along.  (some instruments available)
