Newland New Stars hoping to drum up further success!
Members of Newland Concert Brass recently took part in several successful workshops in local primary schools with the support of the SBBA Youth Development Officer, Alan Edmond. This event was also supported by Newland Junior Band Conductor, Mark Good.
Mark is originally from Campbeltown, and began playing the trombone aged eight, eventually making the switch to bass trombone. For a number of years, he has been a member of Campbeltown Brass and has also served as Bandmaster of Campbeltown Junior Brass. In 2007 he became the Scottish Youth Solo Champion. He is a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland and thoroughly enjoyed a tour of Japan with the band in 2008. He is currently studying at the RSAMD on the BMus (Hons) course and since 2003, he has enjoyed presenting the "Brass Band Show," a weekly programme on local radio station Argyll FM.
Mark is delighted to be involved in the youth development programme of Newland Concert Brass.
There are currently 18 'new stars' in the Beginners Group learning a variety of brass instruments with the support of Mark and a team of tutors from the Senior Band. There are currently 12 members in the Junior Band who are continuing to develop their concert repertoire by taking part in regular concerts.
Newland Concert Brass is keen to hear from any percussion players who would like to be involved in either the Beginners Group, Junior Band or Senior Band.
A spokesman for Newland Concert Brass said,
"Percussion plays a huge role in the modern brass band, providing a backbone for all the music we play. Whether you've played before or maybe are just interested in giving it a go, there will be plenty to keep you occupied in one of our bands!"
