Life Award For Creetown Stalwart

At a recent social evening organised by Creetown Silver Band, Gillian McKnight was presented with her Life Membership medal of the SBBA by representative Peter Fraser. This was followed by the presentation of a commemmorative glass plaque from the band  by the band's oldest member and president, Harry Heaver. A good number of band members, friends and relatives were present to see Gill receive this well deserved award.

Gillian started lessons at the age of 9 with John Gracie, senior, and started playing in the band two years later. She has been a constant member ever since, having played cornet, soprano and flugel before finally settling on the euphonium.

Taking over the post of secretary from her father in 1988 Gill continued in this position till 2008. She continues to be a valuable and hard working committee member and is still involved in teaching the youngsters in the very successful junior group.

Gill has  played with the Benwhat Band and is now travelling to play with the Irvine and Dreghorn band.

It is interesting to note that Gill's great grandfather, John Barr, was a founder member of the band in 1880 and that there has always been at least one representative of that familiy in the band.
