Swing Time at St. Ronans
St. Ronan's Silver Band is teaming up with the talented young people from Peebles High School Swing Band (SwingLoaded) to present a "Swing-time Brass" concert in Innerleithen's Memorial Hall on Friday 22 September at 7.30pm. The event, being generously sponsored by Innerleithen Union Club, is part of the 7th Borders Festival of Brass and promises to provide a feast of feel-good music.
The concert will be opened by the young musicians of St. Ronan's Future Band under the direction of David Roob. The Future Band will be followed on stage by St. Ronan's Silver Band and conductor Alex Knox, leading his first concert with the Band in the town. The second half of the programme will be given over to the High School group under leader Jenny McKie.
SwingLoaded was formed in October 2004 to meet a demand for a 'war time' music ensemble for the VE Day 60th Anniversary Celebrations in 2005. Peebles High School music teacher Jenny McKie drew on the vast talent within the school and was able to create an authentic 'big band', capable of performing professional swing band classics. Since its birth, Swing Loaded has performed at Traquair Fair, Innerleithen Music Festival and at other high profile charity events to critical acclaim. In July of this year, Swing Loaded completed a concert tour of Paris, where it performed at various locations around the city. Probablty the most memorable of the performances was a concert given at the foot of the famous Eiffel Tower. Despite the inevitable change in performers of school ensemble, SwingLoaded continues to develop a mature and authentic big band sound.
