Bon Accord Concert At Balmoral
The Bon - Accord Silver Band have played by far their biggest concert yet ‚Äö?Ñ?¨ in the grounds of the Queen‚Äö?Ñ?¥s Deeside home, Balmoral Castle.
The band played a 25 minute slot in ‚Äö?Ñ??A Truly Scottish Evening‚Äö?Ñ?? organised by George Walker Events Management and presented by BBC Radio 2 DJ Ken Bruce. The event featured world renowned classical singer Katherine Jenkins, the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra and Scottish entertainer Fiona Kennedy. In truly Scottish style, there were also massed pipes and drums, Scottish dancers and a Scottish ceilidh band. Torrential rain also made a dramatic appearance before clearing by the time the audience were arriving for the outdoor concert. This is the first time such an event has been held within the grounds of the castle and was part of the Queen's 80th birthday celebrations.
Conducted by their professional conductor Duncan Beckley, the band played a lively programme of music to an audience of over 4000 people from the main stage in the castle grounds. The programme included the Fugue from Graduation Day by Philip Sparke, Salsa Tres' Prado (from Beyond the Tamar) by Philip Harper and Sparkling Diamonds (from Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend)
Band Manager Mandy Wilson was delighted with the performance, ‚Äö?Ñ??It was such a great evening! It is not every day a brass band has the opportunity to perform at such a beautiful venue supporting such well known artistes. The backdrop was beautiful ‚Äö?Ñ?¨ playing to a packed crowd with Balmoral Castle glinting in the distance‚Äö?Ñ??.
It is estimated that the event will raise over £100 000 for the Anthony Nolan Trust. The Anthony Nolan Trust helps those affected with leukaemia and aims to boost the number of people registering as bone-marrow donors.
The band are delighted to have participated in such a prestigious concert and in doing so supported such a worthwhile charity.
Back down to earth with a bump the band will continue with a busy summer of local engagements whilst helping fundraise for the Bon-Accord Silver B Band as they prepare to compete at the fourth section finals in Harrogate in September.
