Young Scots in Europe
Five young Scottish players attended the 2006 European Youth Brass Band course which took place from the 23rd to 30th April in Belfast. The photograph shows our representatives who were David Hamilton (BBb Bass), Scott Forrest (Soprano), Lucy Forbes (Baritone), Johnnie Young (Trombone), and Alex Ramsay (Cornet).
All five had an excellent and constructive week under the guidance of Conductor Alan Morrison, assisted by Jonathan Corry. The course was part of a very successful well organised week of events leading up to the European Championships. The European Youth band had plenty of input over the week and finished on the Sunday with an outstanding performance of Paganini Variations in a final concert they shared with Eikanger band from Norway.
The course was financed by the Northern Ireland Band Association, and the Scottish Brass Band Association covered all travel expenses for the young people attending. Next year the course will be in Birmingham along with the European Championships which takes place from the 28th April till 6th May 2007.
