SBBA President to Stand Down

ALAN McLaren, President of the Scottish Brass Band Association, is to leave his position at the conclusion of this weekend's Scottish Championships in Motherwell for personal and business reasons. The post will remain vacantuntil the Association's Annual General Meeting in October and thePresident's duties will be carried out in the meantime by Vice-President,Peter Fraser and Secretary, Tom Allan.

Alan McLaren said, "It is with deep regret that, due to recent changes in my personal and business circumstances, I have found it necessary to relinquish my post with SBBA. I will also leave Newtongrange Band after the European Contest in Belfast, although I hope to maintain an involvement with the Brass in the Park weekend in September. My time as SBBA President has been immensely rewarding, but major changes affecting my business situation in the legal profession have made it impossible for me to continue to give the considerable level of commitment required as President of the SBBA."

On behalf of the SBBA, Peter Fraser comments, "The past three-and-a-halfyears have seen many changes in the structure of Scottish banding and, whilst there is much work still to be done, we have made considerableprogress in many areas, not least in the establishment of Brass Band Week, the Scottish Open and Youth Championships. Alan McLaren played a central role in these and countless other initiatives and, as such, Scottish bandingowes him a tremendous debt of gratitude."
