New Chairman For St. Ronans
St. Ronan's Silver Band from Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders has a new Chairman, following the annual general meeting held recently. Christopher Wilson was elected to take over from Kenny Brotherston, whoheld the position for the last two years. Christopher, who plays horn, joined the Band almost twenty years ago and has served as Vice Chairman since 2000. That same week the Band held its annual presentation nightwhen awards were made to Player of the Year and Band Member of the Year. Conductor David McLeod broke with tradition in naming the entire Horn Section (Jill Keddie, Leslie Smith, Abbie Smith and Christopher Wilson) as Player of the Year. They received the For-Lind Trophy. Band Member of the Year went to percussionist Allan Graham who received the Jackie Laidlaw Shield. St. Ronans Silver Band is back on thecompetition trail on Saturday (3 September) when the Band travels to Newtongrange to take part in the annual Brass in the Park challenge. St. Ronans Future Band will also be taking part in the contest under their leader, David Robb. This will be the first contest that the Future Band has undertaken in its own right and we wish them well.
