Brass Band Week 2005

With ever improving numbers of bands participating and coverage on BBC Radio Scotland; Brass Band week 2005 has been hailed as a great success. Brass band week 2005 has also seen the campaign go national with many bands from England and Wales also hosting their own events. In Scotland the welcome support from BBC Radio Scotland includedspots on the daily Fred MacAulay Show the weekly arts magazine "The Arts Show" as well as a spot on the Robbie Shepherd show "The Reel Blend". The SBBA is grateful to BBC Scotland for the interest they have shown and hope to further the links we now have with BBC Scotland. The bands themselves responded to the call from the SBBA to support this initiative in great fashion. There were over 50 events staged throughout the week in Scotland from Perth in the North to Jedburgh in the Borders. Many events staged were concerts or performances by the band but we also had a couple of historical exhibitions staged by the Jedforest Instrumental Dunfermline Town and Kirkintilloch bands; there was even a sponsored car wash in aid of charity undertaken by Perthshire Youth Brass. The brass band week initiative was started by the SBBA in 2003 with the aim of furthering the aims of the brass banding movement to the benefit of all member bands. This year the campaign went national with support offered by the web portal 4barsrest.com and the British Bandsman magazine. It is hoped to grow the event even further in future. The SBBA urges all member bands to support Brass Band Week in any way they can.
