The Co joins leading musicians in EIF tribute to John Wallace

the cooperation band will take part in a landmark concert as part of the Edinburgh International Festival to celebrate the life and legacy of the late John Wallace CBE, one of Scotland's most influential trumpeters, composers, educators and advocates for brass music.

The performance will take place on Thursday 13 August at 5.00pm in the iconic Usher Hall, Edinburgh.

This unique collaboration brings together players from The Wallace Collection, the cooperation band, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, St Andrews Music Participation (StAMP) and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior Conservatoire.

John Wallace founded The Wallace Collection in 1986 and dedicated his life to inspiring generations of musicians. As principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for 12 years, he championed excellence in music education and campaigned tirelessly for free instrumental tuition across Scotland, while maintaining an internationally acclaimed performing career.

The programme reflects both his musical vision and enduring legacy. Audiences will hear two movements from Wallace's monumental Symphony for Brass Band – a work developed over five decades that pays tribute to the landscape, history and people of his native Fife. The concert also features Elgar Howarth's acclaimed arrangement of Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition for brass and percussion.

For the cooperation band, the concert represents a significant opportunity to honour a musician whose influence has been felt throughout the brass band movement and the wider musical community.

He inspired countless musicians through his performances, his teaching and his unwavering belief that music should be accessible to everyone. It is a tremendous honour for The Cooperation Band to stand alongside so many outstanding musicians in celebrating his remarkable life and legacy."

The concert will be professionally recorded for future broadcast by BBC Radio 3, allowing audiences across the UK to experience this special celebration.
