The Co celebrates Commonwealth Games with Music of Sport performance in Glasgow Cathedral

the cooperation band represented Glasgow at Music of Sport, a special concert celebrating the spirit of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, held in the magnificent surroundings of the city’s cathedral.

The concert brought together music, sport and storytelling in an inspiring evening that left audiences and performers alike with a lasting sense of occasion. Featuring performances by the band, Glasgow Cathedral Choir and cathedral organist David Goodenough, the event showcased the power of music to celebrate community, achievement and shared values.

A highlight of the evening was the contribution of presenter Shona Brownlee MBE, whose personal experiences as a paralympian and serving member of the RAF Central Band provided a powerful and uplifting thread throughout the concert. Her stories and reflections perfectly complemented the programme, reinforcing the connection between musical excellence and sporting endeavour.

The programme included a selection of iconic works inspired by sport and celebration, culminating in a stirring performance of Zadok the Priest, performed jointly by the band, choir and David Goodenough on the organ.

Performing in the historic setting of Glasgow Cathedral was a privilege for every member of the band. The audience response was overwhelming, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the evening such a success. Music of Sport was made possible through an award from the Glasgow 2026 Festival Fund, jointly created by Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and Glasgow Life, with funding from Commonwealth Sport, the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and sportscotland.
