It’s non-stop action for the NYBBS brass banders!
Friday 31 July 2026Thursday at the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland summer course was another action-packed day, combining rehearsals with a wide range of activities that brought the whole course together.
Throughout the day, all three bands continued their intensive sectional and full band rehearsals as part of preparations ramping up ahead of the final concerts.
Away from the rehearsal rooms, the ever-popular Battle of the Bands returned, with each section taking to the stage to entertain their fellow course members. Adjudicated by Karen Cooper, the competition showcased plenty of creativity, musicality and humour. After a series of memorable performances, it was the Senior band euphoniums, baritones and basses who claimed victory with their winning entry.
Sport also featured prominently during the afternoon, with the annual Staff vs Students football match proving to be a closely fought contest. After neither side could be separated in normal time, the match went to a dramatic penalty shootout, where the students held their nerve to secure the win.
Elsewhere around the campus, participants enjoyed a variety of activities including rounders, a photography workshop and swimming, offering everyone the chance to relax, develop new skills and spend time with friends from across all three bands.
With the course now entering its final stages, rehearsals continue to intensify as excitement builds towards the showcase performances that will bring another memorable NYBBS summer course to a close.
