Foden’s principals star in Renfrew Burgh Band anniversary celebrations
Thursday 2 July 2026Principal players from Foden’s Band helped Renfrew Burgh Band celebrate its 115th anniversary in a day to remember.
Formed in 1911, the band welcomed principal cornet Mark Wilkinson and principal euphonium Gary Curtin for a busy day of activities, including rehearsals and workshop sessions, which culminated in a packed concert in Renfrew Town Hall, at which Mark and Gary featured as guest soloists.
Reflecting on the day, musical director Mark Good commented: "Our summer concert has become an annual tradition in recent years, but this year was extra special for our band family as we marked the band's 115th anniversary.
"Mark and Gary were brilliant with the band, inspiring us with their playing, and sharing their advice and experience with band members with honesty and good humour.
"The audience in Renfrew Town Hall was fantastic, and the band really revelled in the special occasion, performing with great discipline and musicality."

Shona Jones, chairperson of Renfrew Burgh Band, commented: "It was a pleasure to welcome friends and supporters old and new as we celebrated 115 years of Renfrew Burgh Band.
"We're proud of our heritage and grateful to all those whose dedication has ensured that brass band music continues to thrive in Renfrew.
"Thank you to everyone who supported us at the weekend, including the local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes. We look forward to many more years of representing Renfrew with pride, at home and further afield."
