Reminder for West of Scotland contest entries

This is a reminder that the closing date for entries into the West of Scotland Entertainment Contest is on 31 July.

The event, which takes place in the Walker Halls, Troon, on Saturday 29 August, will be adjudicated by Leigh Baker. Vanessa Baker will judge the entertainment value of each programme.

Bands will be competing for the William Beardmore Shield and are required to play a 20-minute programme of music which must contain a solo item for any instrument.

There will be prizes for the best band in each section, as well as for those bands in first to fourth places overall. Awards will also be made to the conductor of winning band and for best solo cornet, best bass section and most entertaining programme.

Entry is capped to 16 bands.
