Langholm Town Band launches new community music programme

Langholm Town Band has launched a new community music programme called Wee Tooners which is aimed at inspiring the next generation of young instrumentalists.

The initiative will provide opportunities to learn musical instruments and percussion, develop skills, make new friends and become part of Langholm’s rich musical tradition.

Although the focus is on inspiring and supporting the next generation of musicians, the programme welcomes anyone interested in learning an instrument – whether they are picking one up for the first time, returning after many years away or looking for a new musical challenge.

Participants will benefit from tuition, group sessions, performance opportunities and a pathway into Langholm Town Band.

Founded in 1815, Langholm Town Band is Scotland's oldest continuous brass band and has been at the heart of community life for over 210 years. Wee Tooners represents an exciting investment in the future of music-making in the Muckle Toon, ensuring that this rich musical tradition continues for generations to come.

“Wee Tooners is a brand-new community music programme designed to help people discover the joy of making music in a fun, welcoming and supportive environment,” explained Langholm Town Band secretary Christine Calvert.

“The programme is currently in its initial launch phase, with Langholm Town Band inviting expressions of interest from families and individuals across the community. Feedback from those interested will help shape the programme and determine the most suitable session times.
