Renfrew Burgh celebrates 115th anniversary with milestone concert
Wednesday 13 May 2026For well over a century, Renfrew Burgh Band has been entertaining audiences far and wide with its music making. Now the Renfrewshire brass band is to celebrate its 115th anniversary with a milestone concert in which it will be joined by two superstar soloists.
The band is preparing to host its summer concert in Renfrew Town Hall on Saturday, 27 June where it will be joined by two guest instrumentalists from the internationally-renowned Foden's Band – principal cornet Mark Wilkinson and principal euphonium Gary Curtin.
Led by musical director Mark Good, the evening will feature a wide variety of music with something for all the family.
Looking ahead to the evening, Mark - whose association with the organisation stretches back to 2012 - said: "We're so excited to be bringing an evening of musical celebrations to the stage in Renfrew Town Hall, as the Renfrew Burgh Band celebrates its 115th anniversary in style.
"From music from the movies to pop and rock anthems, original music for band and show-stopping solo playing, it promises to be an evening to remember, and we can't wait for people to join us."
The concert comes as Renfrew Burgh continues to achieve success on the competition stage. An excellent fourth place in the Scottish Championships earlier this year came after promotion to the Second Section.
The band has also tasted victory at the Borders Entertainment Contest and was crowned Third Section Band of the Year for 2025.
The organisation's summer concert has become a tradition in recent years, welcoming superstar soloists from the likes of Black Dyke and Cory Band to share their wisdom and musical experience with Renfrew's players, before joining forces for the evening performance.
Shona Jones, chairperson and flugelhorn player, said: "The world has changed beyond recognition since Renfrew Burgh Band was formed in 1911, but the fact the band has played on is testament to those who have given many years of selfless dedication.
"Many of the current band have given decades of service to the organisation, negotiating all the twists and turns along the way. As we look forward to the next chapter of the band's existence, we invite everyone to join us for this very special evening of music."
Renfrew Burgh Band's 115th anniversary concert begins at 7pm. Admission is free, but tickets should be booked in advance here. Donations are welcome and there will be a raffle on the night.
