The ups and downs of the latest Scottish band grading tables
Wednesday 13 May 2026The big movers have been revealed in the latest band grading tables which will take effect from 1 January 2027, determined in the wake of the Scottish Championships.
The grading tables, published by the Scottish Brass Band Association, show that Whitburn and the cooperation band are in the first and second places in the Championship Section following their qualifications for invitations to the National finals in the Royal Albert Hall in October. Bo’ness & Carriden and Granite City Brass slip to the First Section.
In the First Section, Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass and Lochgelly are both promoted after their first and second spots in the Scottish Championships. Both bands will get an invitation to the National finals in York in September. Perthshire Brass and Jedforest Instrumental are relegated to the Second Section.
Johnstone and Campbeltown Brass, after their first and second Championships placings, will be moving up out of the Second Section and are in line for invitations to York. Shotts St Patricck’s and Tullis Russell drop to the Third Section.
In the Third Section, Selkirk Silver and Langholm Town are promoted following their win and third place Scottish Championships finishes. Selkirk and St David’s Brass qualify for invitations to the National Finals. Stranraer Brass and Buckhaven & Methil Miners move down to the Fourth Section.
Bon-Accord B and Coalburn Intermediate move up out of the Fourth Section, after their first and second places, as well as being invited to York.
