John Wallace commemoration at Tullis Russell Mills concert

A specially-commissioned piece of music to commemorate Professor John Wallace CBE is to be premiered at a special memorial concert by the Tullis Russell Mills Band on Saturday 16 May.

John Wallace’s illustrious career as an internationally renowned Scottish trumpet soloist, composer and educator started out at Tullis Russell. His professional career spanned over five decades, playing with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra. He was also the founder of the Wallace Collection, a brass ensemble currently based in St Andrews. 

The concert will feature the new composition by Paul Lovatt-Cooper entitled Force of Nature in memory of John and his contribution to the world of music as an outstanding brass musician.

A spokesperson for the Tullis Russell said: “The decision to put on this performance stems from John's immense contribution to the band and the wider brass community.

“He was a cornerstone of our ensemble for many years, having started playing in brass bands here with his father. We want to gather to remember him through memories and music.”

Musical director John-Luke Harris will be leading Tullis Russell at the event in St Ninian’s Parish Church, Tanshall Road E, Glenrothes KY6 2HN.
