House of Commons recognition for Bathgate Band and its community music hub

Bathgate Band and its work to establish a community music hub in the town have been mentioned during proceedings in the House of Commons.

For everyone involved, this was a proud moment as it provided recognition that a local, community‑driven project being led from Bathgate was being noticed beyond the town.

It was during a Culture, Media and Sport discussion that the reference by Bathgate and Linlithgow MP Kirsteen Sullivan highlighted the importance of community‑led cultural projects and the role they play in widening access, creating opportunity and delivering long‑term benefit.

Through the Bathgate Music Hub, the band is building on its long history of service to the community by working to secure a permanent home for music in the town, one that supports learning, participation and wellbeing for people of all ages.

Led by Bathgate Band and supported by partners, volunteers, families and local organisations, the hub aims to protect and grow music making in Bathgate, while providing a welcoming space where people can come together, learn and belong.

Derek Brown, Bathgate Band vice-president, commented: “Hearing this work reflected at a national level is a reminder that local ideas, when backed by strong community support, do matter. It also reinforces why this project is important, not just for today, but for future generations of musicians and residents.

“We would like to thank everyone who has supported Bathgate Band and Bathgate Music Hub to date. Whether by sharing views, attending events, volunteering time or simply speaking positively about the project, your support has helped bring us to this point.
