Dysart takes ownership of Glebe Centre to be community asset

Tuesday 10 March 2026

Dysart Colliery Silver Band has secured a new permanent base at the Glebe Park Centre in Kirkcaldy following Fife Council’s approval of a Community Asset Transfer (CAT).

The band will take ownership of the former council building which has been vacant for several years and requires significant repair and refurbishment. Members have committed to taking on all repair and maintenance work, with plans to transform the building into a vibrant, inclusive community facility.

Working alongside the Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) Kirkcaldy Gaming Society – who will sub‑let part of the space – the new community hub will offer:

·      Free music tuition and intergenerational rehearsals

·      Weekly tabletop gaming sessions

·      Low‑cost or free community activities

·      Space for meetings, wellbeing groups, cultural events and informal learning

·      A welcoming, accessible venue for all ages and backgrounds

Other local groups, including the Royal British Legion Scotland and community learning providers, have already shown interest in using the space.

·      Refurbishment will be supported by:

·      Funding from the Crown Estate for urgent roof repairs

·      A £20,000 Council grant for essential Day 1 works

·      Over £6000 raised through community fundraising

The band plans to hold an official opening event at the end of the month – and everyone will be welcome to join the celebration!
