Johnstone and Campbeltown earn ticket to York in Second Section
Saturday 7 March 2026It will be Johnstone Band and Campbeltown Brass who will be invited to represent Scotland in the Second Section of the National Finals at the York Barbican in September.
Johnstone, under the expert musical direction of Raymond Tennant, won the contest with a polished performance of the test piece 20,000 Leagues under the Sea by Philip Harper, earning 192 points in the process.
In a closely fought contest Campbeltown, conducted by Owen Pickering, came in second just a point behind and in third place was Annan Town (Lewis Wilkinson) on 190 points.
Adjudicators Alan Duguid and Phillip Littlemore were looking for “what it said on the tin” in terms of musicality, detail and contract of dynamic. All the bands, they said, had put in a decent performance.
Winning the SBBA medal for the best instrumentalist was the euphonium player with Croy Silver, Tony Jarvie.
