Brass and percussion summer schools at RCS

Wednesday 25 February 2026

Each summer the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland welcomes students from across the world, both in-person and online, for a varied music programme that has something for everyone.

The 2026 Summer School courses are aimed at both beginners who want to experience their first taste of performance, and experienced students who want to further develop their musicianship skills.

Did you ever want to know what a week of study and music making looks like in the RCS Brass department? If so, there’s a week learning from the very best brass educators and performers in the country, led by head of brass John Logan and lecturer in brass Mark Reynolds from 20 to 24 July, 10am-5pm.

Students will refine their solo and ensemble performance throughout the week as well as take part in presentations on the history of brass instruments, play on instruments that are over 100 years old and learn about breathing, posture and wellbeing.

This intensive summer school is designed for enthusiastic brass players who want to develop high-level performance skills and learn in a conservatoire setting.

The course is distinctive in relation to the quality of coaching that will be provided by players and teachers who have reached the highest levels of performance and education in the music industry.

To apply for this course you should have reached a minimum playing ability of ABRSM Grade 4 or equivalent in order to fully benefit from this intensive summer school.

The course will culminate in an informal sharing of work for family and friends on the final day.

Further information on this brass course is available here. If you have any questions in advance of booking, please contact the RCS at summerschools@rcs.ac.uk

There is also a percussion summer school from 29 June to 3 July, 10am-5pm.
