Would your band be interested in working with a new music creator?

Sunday 1 February 2026

Making Music is supporting vocal and instrumental groups of all shapes and sizes in their commission of new music with the launch of its 2026 Adopt a Music Creator subsidy.

The reach of the project has now been expanded to 15 groups who will receive a subsidy of £1000 each to put towards commissioning an emerging music creator (in the first seven years of their professional career) of their choosing.

Music creators interested in working with an ensemble can express their interest by submitting a brief pitch to be circulated round the selected groups that do not already have a composer in mind.

Making Music is grateful for continued support from the PRS Foundation and Philip and Dorothy Green Music Trust to be able to make this happen.

Who can apply?

Adopt a Music Creator offers leisure-time groups the chance to work with a professional composer and bring new music to life, whether they have worked with a music creator before or not.

Vocal and instrumental groups of all shapes and sizes – including brass bands – are encouraged to apply for the subsidy.

Barbara Eifler, CEO of Making Music, said: “I am delighted to introduce this extended version of our long-running Adopt a Music Creator project. More leisure-time music groups will now be able to engage with living music creators, with financial and mentor support, to help them navigate commissioning even if they have never done that before.

“We know that developing musically is as important for music groups’ participants as for their audiences, especially younger ones, so we are very grateful to the PRS Foundation for continuing to support this project.”

Groups interested in applying for the subsidy can read more here. Composers interested in collaborating with a leisure time music group can find out more information here.

Deadline for both groups and composers is Friday 13 March.
