Dalmellington Band has appointed Ralph Brill as its resident conductor.

A highly respected musician with a distinguished military and brass band career, Ralph brings exceptional experience, musical authority and artistic insight to the role.

A fine cornetist, he held the principal cornet seat with the Redbridge and GUS Footwear bands and was a founding member of the Frank Renton Brass Machine.

A former conductor of the Clacton Co‑operative Band and the Dunaskin Doon Band, he is also bandmaster of the Highland Army Reserve Band, Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Ralph takes up his new role having been associate conductor of the band alongside Andrew Duncan who has now moved on to concentrate on other musical interests.

His military precision and artistic elegance in rehearsals has enthralled Dalmellington players who are keen to continue learning from him and grow under his leadership and training.

“We’re delighted to begin this next chapter under his leadership,” said a Dalmellington spokesperson. “We thank Andrew Duncan for his valued contribution to the band as he takes a side-step to focus on his wonderful composition work.

“The band is grateful for Andy’s input and wish him every success in the future. The band is looking to the future with excitement.”
