Paula to head new percussion ensemble initiative
Saturday 17 January 2026the cooperation band has announced the launch of The Co Percussion Ensemble, led by the band’s very own star performer, Paula O’Malley.
Paula studied percussion at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she was a two-time winner of the Southern Percussion Award, before completing her MPerf (Distinction) in percussion at the Royal College of Music.
She is now a highly respected freelance percussionist, performing with leading orchestras including the Hallé Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Scottish Opera.
In addition to her orchestral career, Paula has extensive tutoring experience and has worked closely with the Band of the Scots Guards, supporting the development of elite military percussionists. Alongside this, she is a passionate educator, teaching percussion in schools across Scotland and inspiring the next generation of players.
This exciting new project is made possible thanks to generous funding from the Pear Tree Trust and support from Adams Percussion and the Clutha Trust.
The Co Percussion Ensemble is open to percussionists of all ages and abilities from across Scotland. Rehearsals will be held monthly from 5pm in Princes House, West Campbell Street, Glasgow, on the following dates:
- 8 February
- 22 March
- 19 April
- 3 May
- 7 June – Summer Showcase
The ensemble will benefit from using the band’s brand new Adams Percussion instruments, providing access to high-quality, professional-standard percussion equipment.
