Entries invited for new cross-border contest

Sunday 4 January 2026

Entries are now being accepted for a brand new open, own-choice entertainment contest for 2026.

Inspired by the cross-border brass competitions of the early 1900s, the new Clans vs Counties Contest is open to registered Scottish and North of England, Championship, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th section bands.

The contest will be held on Saturday 6 June at the Queen’s Hall Arts Centre, located in the heart of historic market town of Hexham, and adjudicated by one of the UK’s leading performers, John Doyle.

Entries are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. The deadline for entries will be Friday 30 January.

The event is the brainchild of Helen Douthwaite-Teasdale. Coming from the North East and having lived in Scotland for many years, she believes a contest of this nature will be a perfect opportunity to showcase the wonderfully talented musicians of these regions whilst throwing in a touch of friendly competition.
