Christmas message from SBBA president Carrie Boax

Wednesday 24 December 2025

As another year draws to a close and we gather in the warmth of the Christmas season, I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Scottish Brass Band Association, to extend my very best wishes to you all.

This has been a year that once again demonstrated the remarkable strength, resilience and generosity of spirit within our brass band community. Across Scotland, bands of every section have continued to rehearse, perform, compete and – most importantly – support their local communities. From contest stages to community halls, churches, schools and care homes, the sound of brass has brought joy, comfort and inspiration to countless people throughout the year.

I offer my sincere thanks to everyone who makes our movement thrive: the players who give their time so freely; the conductors who inspire and lead; the committees, volunteers and families who work tirelessly behind the scenes; and our adjudicators, organisers, sponsors and supporters who ensure that our contests and events continue to be of the highest standard. Your dedication does not go unnoticed, and the association is deeply grateful for all that you do.

Christmas is a time for reflection as well as celebration. It reminds us of the values that sit at the heart of brass banding – community, teamwork, discipline and friendship. It is also a time to remember those in our banding family who may be facing challenges or who have been sadly lost to us this year. Our heartfelt thoughts are with them and their loved ones during this season.

As we look ahead to the new year, we do so with optimism and ambition. The SBBA remains committed to supporting bands at every level, nurturing young players, promoting musical excellence and safeguarding the future of brass banding in Scotland. Together, we will continue to build on our proud tradition while embracing new opportunities.

I hope that over the coming days you are able to enjoy some well-earned rest, time with family and friends, and, of course, plenty of festive music-making.

On behalf of the SBBA, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and harmonious New Year.
