Dunaskin Doon on the fundraising trail to buy own band hall

Friday 24 October 2025

Dunaskin Doon Band, the only competing band in South Ayrshire, is looking to secure a permanent base for its rehearsal facilities. It now has the opportunity to purchase its own band hall from the council through a Community Asset Transfer.

Owning the hall – the former library in Mossblown – will give Dunaskin Doon a secure home, safeguarding the band’s future and allowing it to continue inspiring musicians of all ages for years to come.

Dunaskin Doon Band, established in 1869, has been at the heart of the banding community for generations, bringing people together through music, friendship and pride in South Ayrshire.

“We are now taking an exciting step forward – but we need your help,” said band chairperson Marion Hutchison.

“By securing this space, we can:

• Sustain the longevity of Dunaskin Doon Band – the only competing brass band in South Ayrshire

• Create a Community and Youth Band, opening doors for the next generation of local talent

• Establish a permanent base where music and community can thrive together

• Strengthen our position as a self-funding charity, ensuring we can continue to serve our community.”

Marion added: “Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to this goal. With your support, we can keep music alive in South Ayrshire, protect our heritage and give people of all ages the chance to be part of something truly special.”

To help Dunaskin Doon secure its own band hall, you can donate at JustGiving.
