Public support grows for Bathgate Band music hub proposal

Friday 29 August 2025

Bathgate Band has received overwhelming public support for its proposals to transform the town’s former West Nursery into a permanent multi-use music and community space.

In a public consultation exercise, the vast majority of respondents, over 180 people, expressed strong support for the proposal.

This groundswell of backing includes not only residents and musicians, but also local organisations such as Peoples Ford Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band and Bathgate Concert Orchestra who have formally signed up as support partners in the initiative.

“Together, we’re building a coalition rooted in shared values: access to music, preservation of heritage, and inclusive community development,” said Derek Brown, Bathgate Band vice-president.

“The consultation responses are continuing to arrive – and they’re powerful. Across every comment, one message stands out: Bathgate is ready for a community music hub that reflects who we are and what we believe in.

“The hub isn’t just a building; it’s a place to gather, collaborate and belong. From brass to pipes, choirs to orchestras, music is Bathgate’s heartbeat.

“Bathgate Band’s legacy runs deep and the support for our leadership in this project has been overwhelming. This is a natural next step in our journey.”

It is intended that the hub will also be a launchpad for youth. A place to rehearse, learn and grow and where the next generation finds its voice, offering a platform for inclusion and social inclusion.
