Outstanding concerts from a top class group of talented young musicians

The dust has finally settled on another tremendous week at the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) summer school in Strathallan.

The fun-filled and packed seven days of musical, learning and social activities culminated in two outstanding concerts in Perth Concert Hall last Friday.

First on stage at 3pm was the Children’s band, conducted by Alan Fernie. At 6.30pm the Reserve band took to the stage, led by John Boax, and the whole evening was brought to a close by the superlative Senior band, under the baton of MD Ian Porthouse.

The NYBBS course and concerts were supported by Creative Scotland and Band Supplies.

“The whole week has been amazing, jam-packed with learning and fun, culminating in the two superb end-of-course concerts,” remarked course director and Scottish Brass Band Association president Carrie Boax.

SBBA vice president Ann Murray added: “All I could see during the week were happy faces and the players working hard and making friends at the same time.

“The Friday concerts were top class – lots of concentration on stage but afterwards in the foyer a sea of smiles and chat with pals old and new. I just wish we could have bottled the atmosphere in the concert hall and sent it to our funding bodies and our MSPs!”

The other performances will be posted in due course.
