Summer concert done, now for the National Finals
Saturday 26 July 2025Renfrew Burgh Band is now concentrating on its preparations for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, with intensive rehearsals and fundraising under way following its successful summer concert in the local town hall.
The packed audience fully enjoyed the programme of the reigning Scottish Third Section champion band which was further enhanced by virtuoso solo performances by renowned tenor horn star Sheona White.
Sheona had joined band members for a workshop session earlier in the day, before enchanting renditions of Capriccio Brillante (Bellstedt), Ballade (Golland), The Piper o' Dundee (Downie) and The Beauty Within (Harper) featuring throughout the evening's proceedings.
Reflecting on the evening, musical director Mark Good commented: "There's something special about our band performing in the spectacular surroundings of Renfrew Town Hall, and we were delighted to be joined by a large and enthusiastic audience for the evening.
"Sheona White has been delighting audiences for decades with her wonderful playing, and band members were inspired as she reflected on her own musical journey, before letting her playing do the talking in the evening concert."
Myra Mack, Renfrew Burgh Band chairperson, added: "We're looking forward to representing Renfrew with pride at the National Finals in Cheltenham in September, playing Music from The Royal Palaces by Sir Arthur Bliss, but attending this major event is not without cost.
“Band members have been working hard to raise funds, but we would be extremely grateful for any further support as the event draws nearer."
A JustGiving page has been set up to help support the band.
