Caroline is new MD at Broxburn & Livingston

Monday 23 June 2025

Broxburn & Livingston Band is delighted to announce the appointment of Caroline Farren as its new musical director.

As a conductor and educator, Caroline has led Whitburn Youth Band to three consecutive Gold awards at the Scottish Youth Championships and now directs the West Lothian Schools Brass Band.

She first studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) with Nigel Boddice MBE before performing with the Scottish Ballet and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

A West Lothian native, she’s the flugelhorn soloist with Whitburn Band – a 10-time Scottish Champion and two-time Bram Thompson Best Horn medal winner – and has played under leading conductors including Prof Nicholas Childs, Florent Didier and Richard Evans.

Caroline works full time as an instrumental teacher with West Lothian Council and has supported bands across the country through workshops and championship preparations. She is also the current child protection officer for the Scottish Brass Band Association.

After a spell of preparing Broxburn & Livingston for its recent summer concert, the band is excited to welcome Caroline into the MD role and can’t wait to perform under her baton at the West of Scotland entertainment contest in Troon on 30 August.
