Lifetime memberships for Turriff Silver duo
Tuesday 20 August 2024Congratulations to Jim McLean and Terry Newton of Turriff Silver Band on being presented with lifetime membership certificates at their rehearsal last night.
At the same time Jim received his life membership medal from the Scottish Brass Band Association for over 50 years service to banding.
Terry has been an integral part of the band for over 15 years, playing at numerous gigs, concerts and contests.
Jim has been a member of Turriff Silver since 1972. He has been a player with the band – with various spells on bass trombone, euphonium and Eb and BBb basses – until his retirement towards of the end of last year.
A true stalwart of the band, his legacy includes not only his performances but also his role in teaching and mentoring countless band members. A highlight of his playing career includes performing with the band at the National Championship of Great Britain (Fourth Section final) in London in 1986.
The award presentations were made by Damian Martin, vice president of the Northern Counties Brass Band Association.
Turriff Silver Band is grateful to both Jim and Terry for their passion, dedication and enthusiasm over the years.
